If you took the latest Spring Fair retail data at face value (*voucher joke*), every UK high street would already be thriving. 96% of shoppers say they'd like to see more independent shops on their high street. 95% say they'd spend more if those options were there. 85% would actively prefer an independent over a chain.
But what's actually happening?
The real answer is habit. We say we'd choose the local bakery, but the supermarket is on the way home. We mean to use the family cafe, but the chain checkouts faster.
Locals, the high street, independents. They don't lose to price arguably so much as to friction.
Closing that gap doesn't take a grand, concerted effort. Our solution - gift cards for those independents. A birthday voucher, a gift from a relative. All slowly helping to nudges people through a smaller business' door for the first time.
This is a key part of why Steppr exists.
