A 'gift card' has historically meant a plastic card tucked inside an envelope (within a confusingly similarly-named "greetings card" - i.e. a birthday card).
Now, the term 'gift card' increasingly refers to the digital variant, typically sent via email to an end recipient, and used both in-store and online, or even just online.
Digital gift cards accounted for 52% of the UK market by value in the second half of 2025, according to the Gift Card and Voucher Association. Their value grew by 26% compared with the same period a year earlier.
That shift makes sense in many ways. Digital/online is easier, quicker and cheaper to send, and often less forgettable or tricky to use for the recipient.
Vouchers bought through Steppr are issued by the independent businesses themselves and delivered digitally. Customers can find them through the Steppr website or apps, then use the voucher with the relevant business under its stated terms.
Most of the businesses on Steppr have their vouchers redeemable online. Take a look!
